Right to Life

"We must not be surprised when we hear of murders, of killings, of wars, of hatred. If a mother can kill her own child, what is left but for us to kill each other."
~ Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta ~
As we start the New Year and settle down from all the Christmas activity, we turn our attention back to our usual routines of living out our lives. We go back to work or school and face the usual challenges that have become part of our human existence. What we need to look at and reflect upon this month as we start the New Year is the anniversary of Roe V Wade. It was 43 years ago, in 1973, on January 22nd that the Supreme Court legalized the killing of innocent children in the mother’s womb. What has developed over the years is this “pro-choice” mentality, which, in all realty, is “pro-death”.
Abortion has desensitized our nation towards respect of life from the first moment of conception, and as a result, violence and hatred has grown in our country. As Mother Teresa points out, how can we get rid of murders, killings, wars and hatred, when we have no love or respect for life from the first moment of conception?
Mother Teresa is also quoted as saying, “The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has shown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father’s role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts ~ a child ~ as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience.” As a result of abortion we have become a more violent and selfish society.
Let us pray to the soon-to-be Saint Teresa that we, as a people, will one day see the sinfulness that abortion is, and that we will move towards a country and nation that defends life from the first moment of conception to natural death.
Mother Teresa, pray for us.
